The latest news...
Well, here I am again with more news. It seems that things change quickly at the moment. First of all I took the kids up to the hospital today so they could see John. He was asleep when we got there. The nurse says he can be awake for about 15 minutes and then he gets too worked up and tries to get out of bed so she has to knock him back out again. But when he is awake he follows commands so that's good. The kids did fine seeing him. They were shocked but still happy to see him in person instead of just hearing about him. When I called the nurse after we got home to check on John, she said "Your kids were amazing...so poised and calm and polite!" When I told Emily that later she said, "Gee Brian, we're pretty good actors aren't we?" LOL

As it stands right now John will have two more surgeries...one to clean up the end of the leg and get rid of any dead tissue, and then a few days later they'll do the skin graft. Unless something else happens that should be the end of that. So he'll be in ICU for another week, and mostly asleep like he is now. They won't be able to remove the breathing tube until after the last surgery this week.
