Amish Country

We spent Fri. and Sat. in Amish country with our couples group from church.  We stayed in Walnut Creek at the small Inn.  Had great food at the Der Dutchman last night and this morning.  We went to the antique shop there and I found a creamer to match the sugar bowl my Grandma gave me.  I have never seen one in any of the antique places we looked.  It was just a couple of dollars so I could not leave it there.  It is called Gold Iris and Herringbone.

We also shopped for a little fabric for the back to finish my Goodnight Irene quilt and the batting I needed.  Did lots of driving around but the fields are not very pretty so I did not take any pictures.  Maybe we can go down again after some of the grass and other things start to grow in the spring.

Goodnight Irene Quilt

I finished the top of my Goodnight Irene Quilt sew along with Terry this morning.  I know it was suppose to be a monthly sew along but I got excited and had to finish it.  Now to get the batting this weekend and figure out the backing.  I know what I plan for the binding.  I am pretty proud of my points even if some are a hair off.  I am not sure I like working with points but I am sure practice would make me better at them.

Snow and Wind Again and Goodnight Irene

About 7:45 PM last night the snow and very strong winds started and it was still doing it this morning.  Hubby went out to use the snow blower to clear the sidewalks and driveway.  It is the kind you have to push through the snow.  We had well over 8 inches of new snow.  Also some very high drifts. The cultivator in the lower part of this picture has about 18 inch wheels and you can't see much of them.  The sun came out and it is now 40 F. degrees.

One of the non-drifted areas.

Cleaning out the wheels.

Up to the engine in snow.

My layout for my Goodnight Irene quilt sew along with Terry, except I can't wait all those months to finish it.  I still have the pieced borders to put on.  What do you think?  I am loving it.  Thanks to Terry for helping me pick out the fabric from my stash and cutting out the pieces.  She is such a great daughter.

Morning Sunrise and Row 3

These 2 pictures were taken this morning out my front window.  I love sky pictures.

This is my Goodnight Irene Quilt sew along with Terry.  I finished row 3 this morning.  I have not sewn the blocks together yet.  I am waiting till I have all 5 rows finished.  Can't wait to get it finished.

More Snow and A Basket Cover

It has snowed all morning and pretty hard.  We got several more inches and it is still snowing.

I made this basket many years ago and always wanted a cover for it.  So this morning I sat down and made one. I used pre-quilted fabric and lace.  I used bias tape to turn under the edges.  I only put 2 ties on it.  One on each side at opposite ends.  It will stay put very well.

Sorry this is a little blurry.  This is just a close up of the cover.

Neck Pillow and Decorated Tote Pocket

I made this small neck pillow the other day. It helps my neck when I sleep.

I had this tote in my stash and decided to decorate the front pocket on it.  I used a blue doily and a white frayed flower I made and then added a neat blue button.  I think it will be very useful because it is a nice size.

Recipe Box

I have had this box for a long time. I found it at a yard sale and it is very heavy.  I made this stitching for the box a while ago too but never got it put together.  So this morning I got busy and cut the stitching to fit and glued it down to the box lid and then glued the rick-rack and button on it.  I am very happy to have it come out the way I planned it to.  It holds a lot of recipes.

Close up of the stitching.

Goodnight Irene Sew Along Quilt

Here in the Jan. and Feb. rows finished.  I am really loving the look.  The rows are not sewn together yet.  I am waiting till I get all 5 rows finished to make sure I like the lay out.
