Blankets

I found some nice flannel in my stash when we cleaned the sewing room and decided to make blankets out of it.  These 2 are double thick tied doll blankets.  I sewed them right sides together leaving a space to turn.  Turned them right side out and then sewed all around the edges about 14 inch in from the edges, which also sewed the opening shut.  I then marked about 6 inches apart and tied them. They will be nice for dolls.

These 2 are double thick baby blankets that I also tied.  These were done the same way as the doll blankets but they are larger.  These are going to Project Linus.

Baby Blanket and Butterfly

I finished the crocheted baby blanket.  It is going to Project Linus.  I started a second one today.  It is 36 inches square.  The pattern is a Granny Square.

Today the Black butterfly visited the Butterfly bush.  I love the bright blue at the bottom of its wings.  It is a lot larger than the orange and brown one yesterday.  I do not know the names of these butterflies but love to watch them eat.

New Project and Butterfly

I started a new project the other day to use up more of my yarn.  Here it is to this point.  I am going to donate this to Project Linus when I get it finished.  I may have enough yarn to make one more in the same colors but a different pattern.

My Butterfly Bush is starting to bloom and I had my first visitor today.  The butterfly would not sit still long enough to get a great picture but if you click on the picture you can see it better. It is sitting in the center of the picture.

Pink and Green Quilt Top

Here is the pink and green quilt top I have been working on.  It has taken me a little longer than planned because I had a stomach bug that slowed me down.  I got the pink and green from my DIL Terri it is Verandah by Free Spirit.  It was a 3 charm pack.  I am happy at the way it came out.

Hubby has been busy

Hubby has been busy sanding and staining our outdoor furniture and swing.  They were in bad need of a new surface.  He used a solid color stain.

Flowers and Chicken and Dumplings

Here are the newest flowers to bloom.  Hubby took the pictures because it is so hot and humid that I am staying indoors with the A/C on.  These are of our Trumpet Vine.

These are the Rose of Sharon that we moved beside the new barn earlier this year.  They are doing great.

What is left of a pot of chicken and dumplings we had for supper.  We did the chicken in the crock pot this morning and had a sandwich from it at lunch and then picked the rest of it off the bones.  Put it and the broth in the fridge.  For supper I put it in a pan and added some water and chicken base to it and then used Jiffy Mix and made dumplings from their recipe.  Boy were they light and fluffy and so good.  At least one more meal out of it.

Quilt Top Finished

I finished the quilt top from the charm squares my DIL Terri gave me and used the white fabric my daughter Terry gave me.  The white really helped tame some of the brighter fabric.  I think it cam out very well.

Flowers and Quilt Block

Here is today's view of the Stargazer Lily.  I love the color and smell of it.

My first nine patch block.

After I cut and sewed it back together.  I do not see that the extra work will make much difference with the patterns of these blocks.  What do you think?  I am going to sash them in white with a white border.

Mushroom Tutorial

Here is a tutorial on making the mushroom battery operated tea light covers.  I hope you can follow this.

First get a glass ice cream sundae dish and a bowl that fits nicely on top. I got mine at a Goodwill store.  Remember they are both used upside down.  You need Mod Podge and acrylic paint of your color choice.  I used a foam brush which I throw away when I was done.

Mix a glob of Mod Podge and some of the paint.

It will look lighter till it dries.  Sort of like this.

Use the foam brush and coat the outside of the sundae glass.  I only did up to the base and the complete outside of the bowl with the mixture.  Work over wax paper so you do not mess up the table.  I put the bowl on the Mod Podge jar to dry.  Let dry at least over night.  Sorry the picture is dark.

You will see it dry a lot clearer than when you applied it.  I suppose you could do more than one coat but I like it with just one.

This is how it looked before spraying.

This is what I sprayed it with.  Do it outside where there is lots of fresh air.  It smells nasty, like spray paint but it is for frosting glass.

Sorry no picture after spraying on my porch.  Let sit and dry for several hours or you will get finger prints on it.  This is how it crackled for me.

I tried to get a good picture of it with the battery operated tea light but this is the best I could do today.

Have fun if you try this idea.  I said before that I got the idea for the mushroom from my daughter Terry and the one she gave me was just frosted which I love.  She saw it somewhere on a blog.  Not sure which one but the crackle is all my happy accident.

Flower and New Project

This is my Lily with it's first 3 blooms.  I think it is called a Stargazer Lily.

This is my next project.  My DIL Terri gave me 3 charm packs of Free Spirit Pagoda Lullaby fabric.  So far I have made sets of 3 for a disappearing 9 patch quilt.  I am not sure how big it will be yet but I have started making the blocks today.  More sewing tomorrow.

I have also started work on a tutorial for my mushroom tea light covers.  Hopefully it will be ready to post tomorrow.

Morning Sewing/Afternoon Bad Storms

I decided yesterday morning I needed to make a new ironing board cover.  The old one was so stiff from spray starch and really ugly.  I took it off and used it for a pattern.  Hemmed the edge so I could get a safety pin with a cord tied to it through and here is the new one.  I like the paler design a lot.  Here are the before and after.

Bad storms and tornado warning all afternoon and early evening.  This is a large flag we are flying and it was straight out most of the time.  Also heavy rain.  We have had 16 days in a row with measurable rain and high humidity.  After the storms went through we could turn off the AC and open the windows.  So nice to get fresh air in the house.  Family are all okay too.

This is out back of our place.  That whole back lot is under water.

This is in front of our new barn.

Next to our home behind our flower bed.

The other side of the same flower bed.

The behind the same flower bed.

The water has gone down except out back.  Better weather for today.

Prayers needed

Our neighbors are in need of your prayers.  He is suppose to have his bowels re-attached on Fri.  His wife was rushed to the ER last week and they found an infection but through tests they also found that she needs a triple by-pass which will happen in the next couple of days.  Thanks for your prayers in advance.

Playing with Diamonds

I saw a diamond shape English paper pieced star done and just had to try it.  Here are the pictures.  I did the star part yesterday and finished it off today.  I hand tack stitched it in a few places but did not quilt it.
